My Word of the Year

Do you choose a word for the year? Ali Edwards shared her new word for this year on her blog this week & you can go to her blog to find out more about how she started this tradition. She also links up to a Free Download "Word of the Year Discovery tool." from blogger Christine Kane. It's a worksheet for thinking through your word and essentially telling the story of your word.I am going to check this out! I think this will be a good Sunday activity for me tomorrow. Last year I had thought about choosing a word but then I never got around to it - so maybe my word last year was procrastination LOL. I chose a word for this year though. My word for this year is PROGRESS. I know better from years past than to expect perfection in the goals I set for myself each new year. As I stated before, I usually bite off more than I can chew and I get discouraged when I fall short of the goals I wanted to accomplish. I prefer to look at my goals as a work in progress instead. I want to give myself credit for even small steps in the right direction. I think that if I can just look back at the end of the year and see that I have made progress that it should be enough. Here's to a year of progress!

Happy New Year! and a couple freebie links

I want to take a moment to wish you all a Happy New Year. Our celebration was pretty low key- but it was fun. Clayne chaperoned the Church youth activity and accompanied Cheyenne there. They were home about 9:30 though cuz they don't let the 13 year olds stay at the party til midnight. I took the remaining 3 kids out to dinner at Wendy's and then we went to the discount movie theater to see the movie Bolt. It was way cute and I'm sure we'll end up buying it to add to our movie collection. When we were all home again we celebrated together with a dish of egg nog ice cream- so yummy! Then we watched a bit of the TV New Year special and at a little after 10 we put on our party hats, blew our noise maker horns and popped the confetti poppers. It makes such a mess but the kids love it. We then spent an hour cleaning up all the confetti lol. We were all in bed sound asleep before midnight. Hope your New Year was good too. I haven't yet transferred my photos to my computer from last night but I did a little page up from last year's pictures and it would likely look much the same as this years.

As for new year goals. I don't like the idea of having to sit down and write them up just because it is the 1st day of a new year. Instead I let them evolve over the first few weeks. I am too busy with Christmas to give them proper thought prior to the 1st so I do it afterwards. I do know that I plan to participate in project 365 - taking a photo each day to document the year so watch for my posts about that - or don't watch if you think you have better things to do lol.

I made this layout using the kit below. You can click on the image to pick it up on sale 40% off. Scroll down a bit more and you will find the freebie mini kit that coordinates and if you click on it you can go to Mandy's blog and pick it up.

And here is the cute freebie to click on.Ziggle Designs put out a fantastic grab bag. Until the 15th it will be just $3. After that it will be revealed and you will have to pay for each item separately in the Market. There are items in the bag that are more "boyish" so don't get the idea from my layout below that it is just a "girl" kit. I just loved the part of the grab bag that was "Shabby Garden." You will definitely want to head over to the CT blog to get a free pack of coordinating paper. SO CUTE! Scroll down to see my sneak peak layout and to click on the image of the Shabby Garden paper to take you to the CT blog where you can get it for FREE!

My good friend Shelly Brown took this photo for me. Isn't it darling. She rocks. Thanks Shelly! Click here to check out her photography blog.

A word on Resolutions - SMART

Had a good laugh at this little comic. Hope you will too. Seriously though I do have just one little word to suggest you keep in mind while setting your goals for the new year... SMART. S is for Specific, M is for Measurable, A is for Attainable, R is for Realistic and T is for Timely. I heard this on the radio and thought this was pretty clever.
And last of all do you need some motivation for the New Year? Check out these monthly motivators at I Need More Time
Have a great day!

A New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Do you all like the holiday of New Years? I love the party and the hope of a new year, but sometimes I don't really like the goal setting or resolution part of it. I was talking to Clayne about it last night and told him that it is just sometimes downright depressing. I think this comes from my over-achiever personality. I want to do more than is reasonable and then wonder why I can't do it. Oh well! With that said:

I would like to be able to tell you that in the past year I...

  • Got back down to my dream weight

  • Ran in a marathon

  • Got my house organized

  • Went on a dream vacation

  • Kept up with my Sunday School scripture reading

  • Kept a journal faithfully

Instead, I have to tell you that in the past year I...

  • Wear the same jeans I did last year (but hey at least they still fit lol)

  • Only ran a 5K and then my planter fasceitis (sp?) said, "no more!"

  • Only cleaned when and what I had to to keep up the appearance of clean

  • Our vacations this year consisted of Midway UT, Bear Lake UT, and a camp out in St. Anthony ID

  • Ok... well I didn't read more than about 2 weeks worth of the assignments

  • I started yet another paper & pen journal but only wrote a few meager pages

However, in the past year I also...

  • Attended the gym faithfully for 6 a.m. classes

  • Gave my feet a rest and am grateful to be able to walk pain free and gain a greater appreciation for my health

  • Spent more of my time with family and developing talents instead of cleaning

  • Enjoyed the small vacations because they were with people I love

  • Read the scriptures nightly with my children 90% of the year

  • Started keeping a blog which has been a joyful journey for me as well as learning to scrapbook digitally

In the next year, I am hoping to...

  • Become more in control of my words and their impact

  • Seek the spirit's guidance to be aware of how to serve others

  • Strive to be worthy of the trust that Heavenly Father has placed in me

  • Put my trust my Heavenly Father in both trials and blessings

  • Keep up my exercise regime but add healthier eating too

  • Learn from my mistakes and accept myself
