Project 365 Day 13

Today's prompt was, "Now find something in your day that will tickle our taste buds, or not :)Yep today's theme is taste. Take a photo of something to express a sense of taste."
Today I needed to bake bread and to me there are few things as tasty as a warm freshly baked slice of bread. Even though this thought is more related to smell, I still had to use it. We all know how much the sense of taste and smell work together anyway.
"The smell of good bread baking, like the sound of lightly flowing water, is indescribable in its evocation of innocence and delight." - M. F. K. Fisher

Project 365 Day 12

Today's photo prompt was, "Next on our sensory list is sound. Can you take a photo of a noise?" I am babysitting today and my little niece, Megan, has gotten to that age that if she even thinks you are leaving the room she cries. Still even with this sad face it just makes me smile. Poor Baby! And a thought:
The main thing in one's own private world is to try to laugh as much as you cry. - Maya Angelou

Scrappy News

Whahoo here is my first layout using my Project 365 Photo a Day pictures. I have to admit that I wasn't sure I would like 7 random photos on a page but when I used Chrissy's newest template set and this darling collaboration kit available at Scrap Orchard - I was thrilled with the end result. I can't wait to have the rest of week two's photos so I can make the next page! Scroll down for product images and some scrapbook sale information. All product images can be clicked on to take you to them in stores. I'll be back later with today's photo for 365.

Yep... above is the collab kit I used on my page and below is the awesome template set that I used. Today is Dollar Day at Elemental scraps and you can get Chrissy's great template set for just $1. But hurry cuz it is only Dollar Day for a day. There are lots of great deals over there today so take a minute to look it over while you are there.

Mandy also has two darling kits available for the Dollar Day sale today. Yep just a buck for each of these gorgeous kits. I have a credit at Heritage Makers that I need to use by the end of this month to make a book and so I decided to make a little coffee table book of my wedding photos - since this year will mark my 20th anniversary I thought it may be fun. These kits are working out wonderful for my project. I am using some templates by Simply Sarah to make my wedding book.

Project 365 Day 11

Today's photo prompt is "Shoot with feeling!Show us something that feels interesting, good or bad, but something that is interesting to touch. See if you can use your camera to show us the texture you can feel. Can you make us want to reach out and touch it or run away and scrub our hands?" Imagine my delight when in the full of winter I discovered this beautiful poppy in bloom up next to one of the buildings at temple square. It just made my heart smile and here is a thought for this beautiful bloom.
"The flowers of late winter and early spring occupy places in our hearts well out of proportion to their size." -Gertrude Wister
While we were still in SLC this morning we decided to attend Music And The Spoken Word at Temple Square. It was wonderful! I just wanted to share a few more pictures with you.

Project 365 Day 10

Hey there. I know I am late in getting yesterday's photo posted. But yesterday's photo took me out of town. Clayne and I went to SLC to watch a Jazz game. The prompt for this photo was "Let's try using our sight to illustrate a different sense. Show us something that smells." And just in case you missed where I was getting my photo prompts - I am getting them from the forum at Scrap Orchard (here).
Believe me there were lots of smells when you get this many people packed into an arena. The smell that stood out the most was the hot dogs that the people seated next to us were eating. The hot dogs were loaded with green peppers and onions and I don't like either of these veggies. Oh well! I overlooked this small nuisance and had a good time watching the game. In case you missed the game it was the Jazz against the Pistons and the Jazz won with a score of 99 to 82. We went with Clayne's boss and they had VIP seats we were in the second row of folding chairs right on the floor. The Pistons team players were just 2 yards away from me. I have never been to a professional ball game and so it was a fun new experience even if I am not all that sports minded. Being in the VIP section - they had a special area that we were able to go to before the game began for a nice dinner and then during half time we were able to go back in this room again for snacks. The dinner and snacks were complimentary which was kind of fun. I have no idea what these kinds of seats would have cost if we had to purchase them ourselves. It was very generous of Clayne's boss to take us along. We left our kids with my parents and then stayed over in SLC. It was a nice get away. And if you made it through all this... here is the thought to go with today's photo.
"Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game." -Michael Jordan

Project 365 Day 9

OK so today is the opposite of yesterday - well kind of. The prompt was to take a picture of something that isn't pleasant. Today I decided to clean my neglected bathrooms. Anyone with a few young boys knows why this job is not pleasant. It isn't that I mind cleaning - it is just that there are so many other things that I would rather do with my time. Aren't you glad I didn't take a picture of the unclean toilet lol. Here is a quote for this picture that I have always loved.
EXCUSE THIS HOUSE Some houses try to hide the fact That children shelter there; Ours boasts of it quite openly, The signs are everywhere. For smears are on the windows, Little smudges on the doors; I should apologize, I guess, For toys strewn on the floor. But I sat down with the children And we played and laughed and read; And if the doorbell doesn't shine, Their eyes will shine instead. For when at times I'm forced to choose The one job or the other; I'd like to cook and clean and scrub, But first I'll be a mother.

Project 365 Day 8

Today the prompt is to take a picture of a simple pleasure. This is a Wonderfully Warm (see the W on the mug lol) beverage. I am not a big fan of Hot Chocolate but sometimes in the long winter months I want a warm drink. I love that this one is only 35 calories and has no hint of mocha ( I don't care for the coffee flavor ) the only problem is that now my tin is empty and I am having trouble finding more of this variety to buy. If any of you see it around please lmk. Here is today's thought:

Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures. ~H. Jackson Brown, Jr., Life's Little Instruction Book

Project 365 Day 7

Today's prompt was to take a picture of your bed. I know that I shared pics of my room a while back on my blog but I took a new one today for the challenge. I love my bed. We have a Sleep Number bed and I am sold. I never sleep as well on any other bed and I don't think I'll buy myself any other type of mattress in the future. And here is my thought for this photo.

A new year a new look!

I just gave my blog an updated look for the new year. I am finally taking down the Christmas tree and so I thought it was also time to take down the Christmas decorations on my blog too. Isn't this a cheerful look? I LOVE it. The pictures in my header were taken by my friend Shelly this past summer. Thanks Shelly - I love these pics and the blog wear is from Scrap Orchard. You can click on the image below if you want to pick up this look for your blog too. Project 365 Day 6

Toady's prompt was to take a picture of something you were making for dinner. This was dessert since it is Clayne's birthday. I need to thank Shelly for letting me borrow her cake tray so my photo would be more pretty. And here is today's thought.
Why not have your cake and eat it too - it's cake, what else are you going to do with it?

Happy Birthday to my Hubby!

So today my fabulous husband, Clayne turns 45. Other than his hair turning white - I would never think he could be that age since he has such a baby face and of course since I am no where near his age lol. He is 6 years older than me but if I believe he is 45 this year - it means I will be turning 39 this year and I just can't get a handle on that idea.

There are many things that I love and admire about him. I am just going to pick two things about him that I wish were traits of mine. First: He can fall to sleep within just minutes of his head hitting the pillow. I think this is so unfair since it takes me forever to turn off my brain and fall asleep. Maybe that is what keeps him looking so young... he never misses his Zzzz's. Second: He is not a fighter. When we first married this used to make me so mad. I came from a family that said what was on our mind and we often had a good little "fight" in my growing up home, but Clayne would never fight with me. He would calmly sit there and hear me out while I let all my frustration out and then would quietly ask if I was finished. Grrrr it would make me so angry. Now I know that is one of the things I love about him and it is what I can expect and it is wonderful that I can just get what is in my head out. Often that is all it takes - just saying it out loud. Now after all these years, I only wish that I had this trait and could be more mellow. Guess that is what makes us work together as a couple though. He is easy going and I am high strung. I am just glad that he loves me and that he chose to be my companion in this crazy life. Happy Birthday Honey - I love you!
(elements used in the blip above are from Ziggle Designs, "and you smell like one, too!")

Project 365 Day 5

Today's prompt was to take a photo from your front door with a part of the door frame in the photo as well. Gosh it is cold today! Here is a thought....
Winter: breezy, sneezy, freezy
or perhaps it is
Winter: slippy, drippy, nippy

Project 365 Day 4

Darn Migraine! I wasn't well last night and so I am late getting my picture posted for Sunday. The prompt was to take a photo of your Christmas Gift. And here is a thought to go with it.

My Christmas Present My Christmas present stares at me, A silver bulge beneath the tree, Tied with bright red bows. I pick it up--its ribbons slip And tingle on my fingertips. "What can you be?" I whisper low. I shake and poke and peer at it, Then put it back and sigh a bit. It will not tell me what it knows. Stiffly dressed in shiny clothes Of silver, waiting silently, My present sits...and stares at me. --Deborah Chandra

Project 365 Day 3

So today's prompt was a bit odd. It was to take a picture of the inside of your fridge. All I could see from it was that it is time for a trip to the grocery store and that I really should clean the dirt out of the bottom crisper drawer left over from potatoes and now home to capri suns. Here is my quote for today.

Good food is a celebration of life. --Sophia Loren

About Project 365... Why do it?Taking a photo a day is a big undertaking with big payoffs. Here are just a few reasons why you should consider doing it:

Original Inspiration From the Photojojo site. Here is what it says on their site.

*Imagine being able to look back at any day of your year and recall what you did, who you met, what you learned… (Often we find it hard to remember what we did just yesterday or even last night, let alone a whole year ago!)

*Your year-long photo album will be an amazing way to document your travels and accomplishments, your haircuts and relationships. Time moves surprisingly fast.

*Taking a photo a day will make you a better photographer. Using your camera every day will help you learn its limits. You will get better at composing your shots, you’ll start to care about lighting, and you’ll become more creative with your photography when you’re forced to come up with something new every single day.

Project 365 Day 2

Today's photo prompt was to shoot a photo from where you are sitting when you read this prompt. This is my kitchen window from where I sit at my laptop at the kitchen table (see yesterday's self portrait lol) I'm calling this picture "Looking Out" and here is the quote I found to go with it.

"The world is a mirror: what looks in looks out. It gives back only what you lend it." - Ludwig Boeme

Project 365 Day 1

I mentioned in my earlier post my desire to participate in project 365. I really like the way this blogger here did the challenge last year. She posted her picture along with a quote or thought each day. I am going to try to follow along over at Scrap Orchard in the forum with the photo prompts they give. Today it was a self portrait. Notice the little tell tell signs that tell you a bit more about me? I love diet Pepsi lime, my signature color is green and I need lots of memory for my scrapbooking - hence the 1 TB EHD that I got for Christmas. So here is my portrait and a little quote I like.I've learned to take time for myself and to treat myself with a great deal of love and respect, 'cause I like me. I think I'm kinda cool. --Whoopie Goldberg

Happy New Year! and a couple freebie links

I want to take a moment to wish you all a Happy New Year. Our celebration was pretty low key- but it was fun. Clayne chaperoned the Church youth activity and accompanied Cheyenne there. They were home about 9:30 though cuz they don't let the 13 year olds stay at the party til midnight. I took the remaining 3 kids out to dinner at Wendy's and then we went to the discount movie theater to see the movie Bolt. It was way cute and I'm sure we'll end up buying it to add to our movie collection. When we were all home again we celebrated together with a dish of egg nog ice cream- so yummy! Then we watched a bit of the TV New Year special and at a little after 10 we put on our party hats, blew our noise maker horns and popped the confetti poppers. It makes such a mess but the kids love it. We then spent an hour cleaning up all the confetti lol. We were all in bed sound asleep before midnight. Hope your New Year was good too. I haven't yet transferred my photos to my computer from last night but I did a little page up from last year's pictures and it would likely look much the same as this years.

As for new year goals. I don't like the idea of having to sit down and write them up just because it is the 1st day of a new year. Instead I let them evolve over the first few weeks. I am too busy with Christmas to give them proper thought prior to the 1st so I do it afterwards. I do know that I plan to participate in project 365 - taking a photo each day to document the year so watch for my posts about that - or don't watch if you think you have better things to do lol.

I made this layout using the kit below. You can click on the image to pick it up on sale 40% off. Scroll down a bit more and you will find the freebie mini kit that coordinates and if you click on it you can go to Mandy's blog and pick it up.

And here is the cute freebie to click on.Ziggle Designs put out a fantastic grab bag. Until the 15th it will be just $3. After that it will be revealed and you will have to pay for each item separately in the Market. There are items in the bag that are more "boyish" so don't get the idea from my layout below that it is just a "girl" kit. I just loved the part of the grab bag that was "Shabby Garden." You will definitely want to head over to the CT blog to get a free pack of coordinating paper. SO CUTE! Scroll down to see my sneak peak layout and to click on the image of the Shabby Garden paper to take you to the CT blog where you can get it for FREE!

My good friend Shelly Brown took this photo for me. Isn't it darling. She rocks. Thanks Shelly! Click here to check out her photography blog.
